Spring Activities You Can Do Without Breaking the Bank

Spring is the perfect time to get out and explore the world around you. Whether you're looking for a budget-friendly vacation or just some fun activities to do with your family, there are plenty of ways to have a great time without breaking the bank. From outdoor activities to taking advantage of local attractions, here are some great ideas for spring activities on a budget!

1. Take an Outdoor Adventure

The best way to take advantage of the sunny weather is to explore the great outdoors. Spend the day hiking, biking, or simply enjoying the scenery. Pack a picnic lunch and find a scenic spot to enjoy it. You can also find affordable camping spots in many areas- perfect for a weekend away. Just remember if you pack it in, be sure to pack it out!

2. Visit Local Attractions

A quick internet search will show you free or low-cost attractions near you. Also be sure to check out your local museums, parks, and gardens. There are often special events and festivals going on, so keep your eyes peeled for an opportunity to save.

3. Have a Movie Marathon

Gather up some friends and family and have a movie marathon. Pop some popcorn, dim the lights, and watch a few flicks. You can even make it a theme night, like a horror movie marathon or a classic movie marathon. If you're looking to really get your bang for your buck, turn it into a potluck-style night, each family is in charge of a dish and there's plenty of food to go around!

4. Go for a Picnic

Pack a picnic lunch and find a spot to enjoy it. Pinterest has great ideas for cold lunches to go. One of my favorites on a budget is buffalo chicken dip & chip! You can pick a spot in your local park or make it a mini-road trip and find a spot in a nearby state or national park.

5. Play Tourist

Pretend you're a tourist for the day and explore your own city or town. Stop in at your local chamber of commerce, they can usually give you great tips you wouldn't have thought of yourself! Try a self-guided tour, visit local attractions, and even check out some of the restaurants you've been meaning to try.

6. Have a Scavenger Hunt

Make a list of items you need to find and have a scavenger hunt, a quick internet search will produce a good list to start with. You can give it a theme, like finding items related to spring or a specific color, and see who can find all the items the fastest.

7. Have a Backyard Campout

Gather up some sleeping bags and pitch a tent in your backyard. We make a version of walking tacos with cut-up hot dogs and chili then roast some marshmallows over the fire and tell stories until the sun comes up.

8. Bike Ride

Rent a bike or take your own and explore the city. Check out some of the bike trails in your area or just cruise around town, just make sure you pack some snacks and water, those trails can sometimes be out of the way!

9. Have a Game Night

Gather up some friends and family and have a game night. Play board games, cards, or video games. If you don't have any games, you can make your own. There are templates for everything from family feud to paper telephones, the possibilities are endless.

No matter what kind of activities you choose, you can have a great time without breaking the bank. Try some of these ideas for spring activities on a budget and get out there and explore the world around you.
